Willie Papu, Obituary,Founding Patriarch of Samoa Independent SDA Church Passes Away

Alaimoana Pastor Willie Papu, the revered leader and founder of the Samoa Independent Seventh Day Adventist Church (SISDAC), has passed away at the age of 86. He died peacefully at his home in Mangere, New Zealand, in the early hours of the morning.

Pastor Papu, alongside his wife Elizabeth, founded SISDAC in 1983. Church members recall this pioneering journey as one marked by significant challenges, through which his leadership steadfastly guided the congregation. His dedication persisted until the very end; despite health struggles, he delivered a final sermon to church members during the celebration of his 86th birthday in Mangere on February 7th. This gathering included church leaders from various countries, serving as a fitting final ministry.

The church community, both in Samoa and across its global diaspora, is now mourning the loss of its patriarch. Senior church leaders, including Pastor Iafeta Masipa’u and Treasurer Pastor Lagolago Levae, were in Samoa when they received the news of his passing.

Pastor Papu’s legacy is one of resilient faith and foundational service. Funeral arrangements for the SISDAC founder will be communicated to members worldwide in the coming days, as the church prepares to honour his life and profound contribution.
