The Pensacola Police Department first alerted the public via Facebook, stating a large police presence was active in the area of Garden Street at N Alcaniz Street due to the shooting. Authorities closed the Interstate 110 exit 1C to Garden Street and blocked westbound traffic on Garden Street from Tarragona to Alcaniz.
In a follow-up update on social media platform X, police announced that eastbound travel on the affected stretch of Garden Street had reopened by late afternoon, but the westbound lanes remained closed indefinitely.

The suspect, an adult male, is reported to have confronted officers with a weapon, leading to the shooting. The suspect was transported to a local hospital with injuries.
