In Loving Memory Of Drum Major Gloria Aicken: 1976 – 2026
The Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association Northern Ireland Branch mourns the passing of Drum Major Gloria Aicken. Her year-long battle with cancer was met with the same strength, spirit, and unwavering determination that defined her life in pipe bands.
Gloria’s legacy is profound. She first made her mark as a talented competitor in her youth. Later, she earned widespread respect as a knowledgeable and fair Drum Major Adjudicator, guiding and evaluating performers across the circuit. Branch Chairperson Andrew Graham noted she left “an indelible mark” on the entire branch community, calling her a “true champion of the tradition.”

Her steadfast dedication was matched only by her kindness. Gloria forged countless friendships within the pipe band family, remembered for her warmth and the genuine connections she nurtured with everyone she met.
The Branch extends its deepest sympathies to her husband Brian, her mother May, her sisters Deborah and Denise, and her entire family circle. Special thoughts are with her brother, past Branch Chairman Alastair Patterson.
As the community reflects on her life, they will honour not just her service and achievements, but the generous spirit she shared so freely. Drum Major Gloria Aicken will be profoundly missed.
May her memory continue to lead us all forward, by the right. Stand at ease, Drum Major Aicken.
