Claudia Hutchins,Deltona Library Fans Assistant Treasurer And Member of Volusia County Library Advisory Committee Has Passed Away
The Deltona Library community is mourning the profound loss of Claudia Hutchins, who passed away after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. Her departure leaves a quiet space where a vibrant spirit once thrived.
Claudia’s dedication was the stuff of local legend, boasting the longest tenure at the library, surpassing even longtime staff and fellow volunteers. Her service was deep and multifaceted. She guided the institution as a board president and, most recently, as Assistant Treasurer on the Board of Directors. Her commitment extended beyond our walls to the broader community through her work on the Volusia County Library Advisory Committee.

Yet, beyond titles and tenure, Claudia will be remembered for the warmth she brought through the doors. Universally described as positive, friendly, and a bright spirit, she illuminated the library simply by entering the room. Her absence will be deeply felt in the daily rhythms of the place she loved.
While we will miss her, Claudia’s legacy is woven into the fabric of the library. Her name will arise in fond stories for years to come. And most tangibly, when Christmas arrives, we will once again bring out the Mitten Tree—Claudia’s cherished pet project—ensuring her caring spirit continues to warm our community every holiday season.
