Brian Elliott Death,Beech Grove Officer Killed in Shooting, 2nd Officer Wounded; Search for Suspect Continues
BEECH GROVE, Ind. — A community is in mourning after a Beech Grove police officer was killed and a second officer was wounded in a line-of-duty shooting Monday evening. The incident occurred shortly after 5:30 p.m. on February 16 in the 100 block of Diplomat Court, near Beech Grove High School.
Beech Grove Police Chief Michael Maurice confirmed that Ofc. Brian Elliott, 33, succumbed to injuries sustained in the shooting. A two-year veteran of the department, Elliott was a proud graduate of Beech Grove High School, serving the very community where he was raised.
“Rest in peace, officer Elliott. EOW: 02/16/2026,” the department stated.

A second officer, who has not been publicly identified, was also shot. Chief Maurice reported that officer is in stable condition and is expected to survive.
Authorities have identified the suspect as 47-year-old Kenneth Johnson. He is described as a Black male, approximately 6 feet tall, 165 pounds, with a slender build. He was last seen wearing a royal blue hoodie with the hood up or a similar head covering. An intensive manhunt involving multiple agencies is underway.
The Beech Grove Police Department and the entire Indianapolis metropolitan area are rallying around the fallen officer’s family and colleagues, as the search for the armed suspect continues.
