Michael Diego Death,Florida Highway Patrol Mourns the Loss of Trooper Michael Diego
On behalf of Director Kerner and your FHP Command Staff, it is with profound sorrow that we inform you of the tragic passing of Trooper Michael Diego (ID: 1529). This evening, while participating in a competitive process for the Patrol’s Criminal Interdiction Unit at the FHP Training Academy, Trooper Diego suffered a sudden medical emergency.
Troopers on scene, soon joined by Gadsden County EMS, initiated immediate and valiant lifesaving efforts. He was transported to HCA Florida Gadsden Emergency and later airlifted to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Despite the extraordinary measures of his fellow Troopers, first responders, and dedicated medical staff, Trooper Diego tragically succumbed to his condition, surrounded by his loving family.

Trooper Diego answered the call to service in 2021 as a member of the 149th Recruit Class. He served with dedication, first in Troop L – Fort Pierce District and, most recently, in Troop F – Fort Myers District. For over four years, he honorably upheld the mission of the Florida Highway Patrol, protecting the residents of our state.
Trooper Diego is now the 55th Florida State Trooper to have fallen in the line of duty. He is survived by his mother, sister, and fiancé. As our entire FHP family grapples with this devastating loss, we ask you to hold Michael’s loved ones in your thoughts and prayers. We honor his service, his dedication, and his ultimate sacrifice. Rest in peace, Trooper. We have the watch from here.
