Teen Shot on Detroit’s West Side, Police Search for Suspect

DETROIT – A 14-year-old was rushed to the hospital after a shooting Monday evening on the city’s west side, prompting a large police response and an active search for the gunman.

The incident, reported just after 6:30 p.m., drew officers from the Detroit Police Department’s 4th Precinct to the 6900 block of Parkwood near Martin. Initial dispatch reports indicated a juvenile had been shot, though the age was unconfirmed.

 

Officers arrived quickly and began life-saving measures, applying a tourniquet to the victim by approximately 6:32 p.m. Detroit EMS Medic 7 arrived on scene shortly after and transported the young victim to Children’s Hospital.

As medical aid was rendered, officers shifted to locating the suspect. By 6:35 p.m., they requested a K-9 unit, K-97, for a suspect reported fleeing on foot. The shooter was believed to be possibly inside a residence or nearby. After clearing the house, police focused their search on the surrounding area.

The suspect is described as a white male named Alex, approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall with a thin build. Additional units were called to secure the scene and assist in the search.

DEMS Medic 9 was also dispatched to the location at the request of a supervisor. The investigation remains active as police work to apprehend the suspect.
