Gordon Pentecost Obituary,Former Chairman of the Board at Durban Girls’ College Has Passed Away
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Gordon Pentecost, a man whose life was a profound tapestry of professional excellence, sporting prowess, and dedicated service.
Educated at Maritzburg College, Gordon’s all-rounder talent was evident early, excelling academically and in hockey, tennis, and athletics. At the University of Natal, he graduated with a BA LLB *cum laude* as the top law student of 1974, while captaining university hockey and earning a full blue.

His legal career was marked by leadership and scholarship. Admitted as an attorney in 1975, he rose to Managing Director of Livingston Leandy Incorporated, a role he held for two decades. He generously shared his expertise, lecturing part-time and authoring a Students Manual for Practice Management.
Beyond the law, Gordon was a pillar of South African hockey. Representing South African U21 and Natal teams, he later served as a coach, selector, and board delegate, receiving the President’s Award in 2008 for his immense contribution. His commitment extended to education, where he held several board chairmanships, and to community welfare through his work with Highway Hospice.
Gordon Pentecost’s legacy is one of unwavering integrity, passion, and kindness. He will be remembered with great respect and warmth. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Fiona, and their children, Elizabeth, Kate, and Richard. His memory will live on in the many lives he touched.
