April Mae Suicide Death ,Double Deaths Investigated as Murder-Suicide After Man Shot Himself

MILAN, TN — A devastating scene unfolded Monday on West Cherry Street as authorities responded to a house fire, only to discover a tragedy that family alleges is a murder-suicide.

The incident came to light after Abby Miller, niece of victim April Mae, contacted the Mirror-Exchangen  just before noon. Miller reported that her aunt was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend, whom she did not name. According to Miller, who spoke to a family member, the suspect wrote a letter instructing someone to tell his children he loved them. She stated the man then shot and killed Mae, set the house ablaze, and turned the gun on himself.

Initial reports from the scene, with a large presence of fire, rescue, and police, indicated at least one person was found inside the burned residence.

UPDATE: Local authorities have now confirmed two adults, a male and a female, are dead in what appears to be a double suicide. This description conflicts with the family’s initial account of a murder-suicide.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigations has taken over the case and is conducting a full investigation. No official press release has been issued, and the identities of the deceased have not been formally released by investigators.
